Differential pressure valve DV 8.2 Oil pressure control in a turboexpander
In a gas expansion plant the gases are liquefied to facilitate storage and later transport. The gas under pressure flows from the upstream processes into the expansion turbine. The gas pressure is reduced and the gas volume expands. During the gas expansion phase in the turboexpander, no process gas is allowed to pour out because the plant is operated in a hazardous explosive atmosphere.
TASK // Keeping the oil pressure constant in the shaft seal
The shaft seal of the turboexpander is an oil-lubricated mechanical seal. Since the oil pressure in the shaft bearing is higher than in the compressor, the process gas is not able to escape from the system. A differential pressure control valve permanently regulates the differential pressure between the gas side and the seal oil side to at least 5.2 bar g and max. 11 bar g.
SOLUTION // Differential pressure regulator DV 8.2
The single-seat proportional control valve DV 8.2 is suitable for high pressures and small flow rates. It opens with the differential pressure rising above the piston. Its metallic cone seal and the body completely made of CrNiMo steel give it excellent corrosion resistance.
